Forensic Scientists assigned to the Trace Evidence Section perform examinations on trace amounts of physical evidence, report their findings with interpretation as appropriate, and testify in court as expert witnesses. Examples of analyses performed are:

  • Paint Analysis and Comparison

  • Glass Comparisons

  • Fiber Identifications and Comparisons

  • Hair Comparisons

  • Explosives Identification (Pre- and Post- Blast)

  • Ignitable Liquids Identification (Pre- and Post- Fire)

  • Head Lamp/Tail Lamp Examinations to determine if on at collision

  • Lachrymators (tear gas, pepper spray)

  • Physical Matching

  • General unknown substances (other than drugs)

The turn-around time required for examination results varies depending on the complexity of the evidence.
